Artle Cafe  is located in Auroville, adjacent to the road entrance to the Visitors Centre which is just a short 5-minute walk away.  The property is new under 1 years old and very modern and tastefully decorated.  Free WIFI is available.

Here you can experience comfort and luxury; all rooms are fitted with air conditioning and fans; comfy mattresses and orthopedic pillows with a blanket if you need it.  All rooms have their own very modern private bathroom with shower, in addition some also have a bathtub.  Each room has a TV and can be charged ready for you, if you wish, with advance notice of 2 days of your stay.  We also have a movie room and hold regular movie nights.

We can cater from just a solo traveler up to large groups.  We have one dormitory for a group of up to 10 guests, quadruple rooms and one facility with its own kitchen.  First and second floor rooms each have a balcony.

We have a private large garden area, free private parking, a rooftop terrace, separate seating areas on the first and second floor, gallery/yoga space, movie room, and a restaurant on site (vegan restaurant opening Nov 2018).

Filtered water is available and we can do your washing at a very reasonable rate.  An iron and ironing board can also be provided.  Towels are provided. Soap, shampoo and conditioner available on request.

A free breakfast is included with each booking which is a delicious traditional south Indian breakfast of idly and chutney, prepared fresh each day for our guests.

Bicycle and scooter rentals are available on request.

We can accommodate early morning check ins (subject to availability), please let us know if you require this in advance.  Normal check in is 10am and check out is 12 noon.

Location and nearby

In the midst of forested, semi-urban, and beach areas, we are at the very entrance to Auroville, just 500 meters from the visitors Centre.  Founded in 1968, Auroville, ‘the City of Dawn’, is a place that anyone with idealistic leanings will love: an international community dedicated to peace, sustainability and ‘divine consciousness’, where people from across the globe, ignoring creed, colour and nationality, work together to build a universal, cash-free, nonreligious township.  In Auroville you can spend a few hours to a day minimum if possible and much more if you have the time.  Visits to Matrimandir’s (a symbol of the Divine’s answer to man’s aspiration for perfection) viewing point in the city’s central Peace Area is free.  There is a network of over 25 km of cycle paths throughout Auroville.  A host of activities and service are on offer in Auroville.  Auroville beach is 7km.

Kuilapalayam – 5km.  Find a host of restaurants and local boutiques.

Pondicherry (Puducherry) – 12km.   An old French colonial settlement (until 1954). Visit the 4 centuries old cathedral, the big market, Aurobindo Ashram, Park, The Promenade, the French quarters and Muslim Quarters.  Airport 8km, Rock Beach 8km, Heritage Town 7km, Bus Stand 6km, Train Station 6km, Jipmer Hospital 4km.

Chidambaram – 79km.  Visit the great temple complex of Nataraja one of the holiest of all Shiva sites, a Dravidian architectural highlight.

Chennai international airport – 141km. Public transport is available from Chennai Centre and takes 3 hours.
